Hi! I’m Lina, the مخلوقة behind Ya Nawar!

I started this brand as an outlet to channel theقهر and grief we’ve been collectively experiencing as we witness our people and our lands ravaged and destroyed by occupation and colonization.

Ya Nawar has been a way for me to reconnect back with Syria after 17 years of separation. I work directly with artisans and merchants in Syria, and collaborate with the Syrian diaspora here in NYC to bring together this little digital boutique.

My hope is that Ya Nawar can grow into something that allows me to support the Syrian artisan community in bigger ways, as I continue to learn, create, and build community.

ya nawar - “ya” means you, and “nawar” refers to nomadic communities from bilad al sham (the levant). the term is commonly used as an insult implying that one is uncivilized. this brand is a love letter to those in the diaspora destined to live a nomadic existence, always longing for the place we once called home, and sometimes behaving like complete nawar.
